2013 Red, White and Blue Parade |
|
|
|
|
Monday, 06 May 2013 |

The time is approaching quickly...
If you are like most residents and enjoy our annual neighborhood 4th of July parade start getting those bicycles ready, dust off your wagons and power wheels, and start planning out how you're going to decorate because the 4th isn't that far away. Be sure to mark your calendars for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4th, that's when the fun begins at the corner of Ravenhurst and Prestonwood Forest Drive. Last years parade was great, lots of kids and families came out to participate and watch and everyone had a good time; lets do it again this year! Bring out those bikes, trikes, skates, strollers, motorized vehicles, and anything else you can dress up and make festive on this fun and celebratory day. All entries are welcome and encouraged!
This year, the Prestonwood Forest Maintenance Association will be serving residents with James Coney Island hot dogs, in addition to chips and drinks. PFMA has also arranged to open the Clubhouse pool at 10:30, after the parade – so please be sure to bring your pool tags for admittance!
Hope to see you out there again this year!

A recent visitor writes to express her appreciation...
I just wanted to give a huge thanks to the Nite of Lites tradition that has kept going. I am 24 years old and remember my parents taking me and my two sisters every year to look at your display; I now take my four-year-old daughter and she loves it. Not many people decorate nowadays so it is appreciated to the ones that do.
Again thank you and keep it going; we will be there every year (a few times each year) to enjoy the time, dedication and love put into the decorations and lights. May God Bless you ALL and have a Merry Christmas!

|
|
|
Saturday, 15 December 2012 |

Prestonwood Forest proudly welcomes hundreds of visitors every year to share in our neighborhood’s Christmas spirit and holiday decorations. This year, our Nite of Lites event officially begins December 8th and ends on December 30th, 2012. The residents compete for prizes generously donated by our local vendors in the following categories: Best House, Best Lamp Post, Best Mailbox, Best Block, Best Cul-de-Sac and Runner-Up Block. Prestonwood Forest wants every visitor to have the best time possible but would like to remind our visitors of the following:
DO’s
1. Have fun!
2. Lights are on all days during the Nite of Lites events until 10pm on weekdays and until 11pm on weekends;
3. Please respect our residents and allow them access in and out of their driveways;
4. KEEP YOUR VEHICLE LIGHTS ON;
5. Remember to make a bathroom stop before beginning your tour to enjoy the lights;
6. Visit both sections of our neighborhood (see PWF map);
7. Be patient and courteous to other visitors;
8. Use caution when reversing your vehicle;
9. Feel free to say “Merry Christmas” and “your house looks great” to homeowners who are outside enjoying the event;
10. Have fun!
DON’Ts
1. Drive with your vehicle lights off;
2. Let your children hang out of your vehicle;
3. Enter our residents’ yards without permission;
4. Think bushes or trees are public bathrooms;
5. Throw trash in the streets or yards;
6. Tamper, adjust or move decorations;
7. Take a souvenir out of our residents’ yards;
8. Feed the bears (ok, maybe you don’t have to worry about this).
**Tips**
1. Drive through during the week, if possible. Traffic is the heaviest during the weekend.
2. If driving through during the weekend, start at the back of the subdivision off Hargrave Road. (See map).
Please remember that our residents have spent endless hours decorating and preparing their house and yard for your enjoyment. We want you to have a great time but please, be safe, respect the residents and your fellow revelers.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good Nite of Lites!

There were so many wonderful displays this year including a “live” Santa Claus on Brinkworth Lane that children could sit on his lap! Kudos! to all residents that decorated this year!
The Nite of Lites event would not be possible without judges. This year, we had a wonderful group of non-resident volunteers that spent their Saturday evening judging our contest. A HUGE “thank you” to:
| |
Jerry & Yvonne Clark |
|
Bruce & Michele Houtchens |
|
| |
Paul & Carol Crawford |
|
Dr. Brendan Kennedy |
|
| |
Newton & Martha Houston |
|
Fran Pierce |
|
| |
|
|
Kyle & Carla Villyard |
|
We couldn’t have done it without you!
Thank you to long-time resident, Barbara Vann, for driving some of the judges around the neighborhood. We couldn’t have done it without her either!
The Committee also needs to thank the residents of 8100 Wycomb Lane (2010 Best Block winners) for securing some of the judges and then hosting the judges’ dinner. The food, desserts and ambiance were fabulous! Thank you to the Howards for letting us invade their beautiful home and to Polly Braun for coordinating the evening.
This year’s Nite of Lites winners received some awesome and generous awards. “Thank you very much!” to all of our 2011 Nite of Lites Sponsors. To properly recognize and thank these sponsors, their representative and donation have been listed in a separate area. Please stop by these establishments to say hello to the owner and/or manager and don’t forget to mention that their generosity to our wonderful event is truly appreciated.
Thank you again to all the participants in this year’s Nite of Lites celebration and congratulations to the 2011 winners. Be watching the PWF Press and on PrestonwoodForestonline.com for upcoming announcements concerning the 2012 Nite of Lites event. Dear Prestonwood Forest Residents,
Can you believe it’s almost that time again? Before we know it, Santa will be on his way! We have some exciting news to share with you. Don’t be surprised if you see television cameras in the neighborhood during the Nite of Lites festival this year. We received a telephone call from HGTV’s headquarters in New York wanting dates of and information on our tradition for a segment they are doing on neighborhoods decorating for the holidays. Can you believe that they have heard of our wonderful neighborhood’s tradition all the way up in New York?!!!
New residents to the neighborhood - PWF has a long running (36+ years) tradition of going all out when decorating the outside of our homes during the Christmas season. So much so, that we have been dubbed “The Christmas Lights Neighborhood”. PWF has been spotlighted in all local newspapers (major and minor), all local television stations, The Travel Channel and was spotlighted nationwide on Fox News and now quite possibly HGTV!
This year's Nite of Lites officially begins on Saturday, December 10th and will end on January 1st. Judging on Saturday evening will begin around dusk. Have your lights and displays completed by the time the Judges start their rounds on Saturday evening or you won’t be eligible for any of the great prizes. See below for Lights On, Lights Off time table.

We know that putting out lights and displays is a lot of hard work. We also know that once the creation is finished, you want to show it off. Feel free to do so, but please, follow the time table above. By following this schedule it will help lessen the traffic flow late at night (when mischief takes place).
On that note, we encourage all residents to be observant during the holiday season as crime in our surrounding area is on the rise. If you see someone suspicious, or something out of whack, please call the Constable @ 281-376-3472 immediately. A patrol unit is usually in our area and can respond quite rapidly.
• We suggest to residents that they should cable/secure their yard art
so it won’t walk off their property so easily.
Winners will be notified on Sunday afternoon, December 11th. At that time, prizes will be awarded, yard signs will be erected and pictures of the winners and their displays will be taken for inclusion in the Prestonwood Press and here on the PWF website.
