Dear Prestonwood Forest Residents,

Can you believe it’s almost that time again? Before we know it, Santa will be on his way! We have some exciting news to share with you. Don’t be surprised if you see television cameras in the neighborhood during the Nite of Lites festival this year. We received a telephone call from HGTV’s headquarters in New York wanting dates of and information on our tradition for a segment they are doing on neighborhoods decorating for the holidays. Can you believe that they have heard of our wonderful neighborhood’s tradition all the way up in New York?!!!

New residents to the neighborhood - PWF has a long running (36+ years) tradition of going all out when decorating the outside of our homes during the Christmas season. So much so, that we have been dubbed “The Christmas Lights Neighborhood”. PWF has been spotlighted in all local newspapers (major and minor), all local television stations, The Travel Channel and was spotlighted nationwide on Fox News and now quite possibly HGTV!

This year's Nite of Lites officially begins on Saturday, December 10th and will end on January 1st. Judging on Saturday evening will begin around dusk. Have your lights and displays completed by the time the Judges start their rounds on Saturday evening or you won’t be eligible for any of the great prizes. See below for Lights On, Lights Off time table.

  Lights On   Lights Off

All Days 6:00pm   Monday thru Thursday 10:00pm
      Friday thru Sunday 11:00pm

If you know a non-resident that would be interested in judging our event, please contact us. They will get a nice dinner before the event and dessert during winner negotiations. Best Block of 2010 – please remember – you are responsible for hosting the Judge’s dinner and the after tour activities. Please forward us your details by the first of December.

We know that putting out lights and displays is a lot of hard work. We also know that once the creation is finished, you want to show it off. Feel free to do so, but please, follow the time table above. By following this schedule it will help lessen the traffic flow late at night (when mischief takes place).

On that note, we encourage all residents to be observant during the holiday season as crime in our surrounding area is on the rise. If you see someone suspicious, or something out of whack, please call the Constable @ 281-376-3472 immediately. A patrol unit is usually in our area and can respond quite rapidly.

We suggest to residents that they should cable/secure their yard art
so it won’t walk off their property so easily.

Winners will be notified on Sunday afternoon, December 11th. At that time, prizes will be awarded, yard signs will be erected and pictures of the winners and their displays will be taken for inclusion in the Prestonwood Press and here on the PWF website.

Categories being judged this year are:
  Best House   Best Lamp Post
  Best Mailbox   Best Door
  Best Block*   Runner-up Block
  Best Cul de Sac**

* (to win Best Block, there must be at least 95% participation) [if your block has a new theme, please let us know]
** (new category – only relevant to streets that have a median area in the center of the circle at the end of the street)

We are hoping for record participation this year so get those lights strung and that yard art erected!

Thank you to all of the residents that have participated for so many years. Remember that PWF has elderly and infirm residents that would love to participate in the Nite of Lites tradition but are unable to decorate, so please, help your neighbors.

Good luck to those that are vying for an award and a special THANK YOU to all the residents of non-Christian faiths that show their neighborly spirit and participate each year.

We wish you all a safe and merry holiday season!
